Project

MIPI DSI Display Bring-Up

Bringing up an ST7701S panel by working across device tree, panel initialization, Linux drivers, and physical signals.

Overview

This project focused on connecting and configuring a 480 × 854 ST7701S display using a two-lane MIPI DSI interface.

The challenge

A working display depends on the display engine, timing controller, DSI host, D-PHY, panel power, reset, initialization commands, and video timing all operating together.

What I worked on

  • Configured resolution and horizontal and vertical timing.
  • Investigated DSI low-power and high-speed communication.
  • Studied the display engine, TCON, DSI controller, and D-PHY.
  • Added and tested ST7701S initialization commands.
  • Modified Linux device-tree and driver configuration.
  • Measured display signals with an oscilloscope.

Results and lessons

The project showed that display bring-up is both a software and hardware problem. Correct panel commands alone are not enough when clocks, timings, pin control, or the D-PHY are wrong.
